Thermal Transfer Permanent Labels require a special printer fitted with a ribbon in order to function correctly. Thermal transfer printing is a digital printing method in which material is applied to paper (or some other material) by melting a coating of ribbon so that it stays glued to the material on which the print is applied. It contrasts with direct thermal printing where no ribbon is present in the process.
This type of printing is extremely reliable and produces a consistent image on every label. Thermal Transfer Printing lasts longer than Direct Thermal Printing because in thermal transfer printing, the heat transfers the colour pigment of a ribbon onto the label whereas direct thermal doesn’t require a ribbon and just creates an image by using the heat it’s exposed to.
If you are needing to print labels on demand, then thermal transfer labels from Auto ID Systems are both affordable and easy to use solutions.
